Money vs Happiness: Which is more important

Even though we are time and again taught about the importance of money in our life and the fact that money brings us happiness, the truth is something just opposite of this!! Yes, money certainly is a necessity for us but it does not bring with it any kind of happiness. With the help of ample money, an individual can achieve their goals, provide their family with a better future as well as make their lives more enjoyable in several ways but in reality merely having enough stuff or luxury has hardly given anyone the feeling of happiness or content.

Money certainly affects our level of happiness because if we are having enough money, we are satisfied from the financial perspective of our lives but the question that arises here is if money is more important than happiness. Can money buy happiness??

We often look up to wealthy people and all we see is a content life with ample luxury and money to spend. This money definitely aids them in leading a great life but it is never directly proportional to their level of happiness. This is due to the reason that money only offers materialistic happiness to people whereas happiness in its purest form comes when the mind and the body are in complete harmony with each other. While money brings with it short- term happiness, true happiness benefits an individual in the long run.

How happiness wins over money?

When we buy a pair of new denims or expensive pair of shoes, it makes us happy at first. It is also possible that you will feel happy every time you wear these apparels and feel good about yourself. However, think about the scenario when you have taken off the shoes or denims at the end of the day. Does it still makes you happy? What about the case when these commodities will wear away? You will certainly go out and buy new shoes and this begins the cycle of finding happiness in these materialistic things. The truth is that happiness that comes through the splurging of money is short- lived and it is never enough for keeping you happy in the longer run.

An individual needs to stop running behind money and remember that material possessions are just temporary and remember the fact that long- term happiness comes only from the things that we cannot buy with money. The laugh of an infant baby, the love you feel from your parents and partners; those are things that are priceless in its true sense and these make you happy beyond these material possessions. A nice evening spent with the love of your life or a simple chat with your mother will bring you more happiness than the time you spend in making more money or in buying materialistic things.

Happiness not only ensures your physical and mental well- being; rather it also makes you a better person. Remember that true happiness never comes from things that you can buy; it comes from things that can only be felt and experienced.
